freeform Corian spiral stair
Perkins+Will, New York
A freeform staircase to connect two floors of a Frankfurt office tower. The predominant corian in the new furniture should also strengthen the staircase's immateriality .
The load-bearing interior is made of thin-walled welded steel. Deformations are minimized for the sensitive Corian cladding. The cladding out of thermoformed Corian sits tight on the steel structure so that the balustrade and spiral turn out just four centimeters thick. Geometric challenge of 3D planning was the smooth transition of the inner into the outer string.
This is a personal reference from Martin Manegold and was done during his work as a 3D planner at imagine structure.
