paperCloud is responsive, energy-saving lighting system made of recycled materials that can be sold as a single-module chandelier or as multiple modules to replace an entire suspended ceiling system.
aim of the project was to showcase that smart building components can be achieved by combination of low-cost components and low-tech production with smart programming. the units are cost-efficient, yet customizable. in addition, the Tyvek fibrous-paper is not only durable, water-proof and fire-rated, it is in this case also acoustically insulating and thereby combining beauty with function.
designed for the forgotten spaces trapped in the depths of big buildings, disconnected from the outside, paperCloud dynamically regulates the indoor microclimate by responding to real-time indoor and outdoor conditions. It provides light when daylighting dims; it provides air movement when the temperature rises; and it dims when nobody is there. it even serves as an acoustical surface.
